Having a diverse and inclusive workplace culture is no longer simply a “nice to have.” It has to be at the heart of every business. It’s important that we cultivate a more diverse and inclusive workplace; somewhere everyone, regardless of their race, gender, sexuality, age and more, feels a community of collaboration and authenticity – two values home to F&G.
At F&G, we are dedicated to furthering diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) by supporting the LGBTQ+ community and strengthening awareness and equality in our workplace.
Creating a culture of belonging
A healthy work environment for all employees is important for not only increasing productivity, but more importantly helping employees feel comfortable coming into work every day. Incorporating LGBTQ+ initiatives into our recently formed DEI committee is an important aspect. Raising awareness provides an environment where employees can feel welcomed, valued and able to express their true selves.
“Allowing employees to be real and open about their personal lives without fear of being judged is really big and important to the people in LGBTQ+ community and myself,” says Medis Brkic, an internal wholesaler at F&G and active member of the LGBTQ+ community.
We are being intentional with educating and bringing awareness to our employees on inclusivity and equity in the workplace. We’re creating space for open conversations, trainings and DEI-focused support — like our sponsorship of Capital City Pride — that aim to build and develop a diverse and inclusive culture.
Medis believes F&G appreciates her for who she is.
“I don't have to carry the burden of trying to hide my true self. I think it does help focus on work and having fun and being happy and satisfied with the job and the company that you work for and just work life itself.”
Supporting Capital City Pride
Sponsoring Capital City Pride is an opportunity for us to support the LGBTQ+ community in a meaningful way and ensure our employees are heard. Capital City Pride is an organization dedicated to bringing together the LGBTQ+ community.
This summer, the organization is hosting events that inspire, educate, commemorate and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community in the Des Moines area. We are proud and excited to sponsor Capital City Pride and their initiatives not only this summer, but all year.
Capital City Pride is hosting 30+ events over 30 days in June across Des Moines. This will be a month full of in-person events with social distancing and mask mandates, mixed with virtual productions that will be live-streamed. Join us in attending any or all of their events, including the Pride Speaker Series, 515 Manifestival, Pet Parade and the Pride Parade, plus some new ones in this new month-long format.
