Despite the progress being made in LGBTQ+ equality, millions of Americans today go to work in fear of losing their job because of who they are or who they love. People shouldn’t have to be afraid of being discriminated against in their workplace — which is why we would like to share how F&G continues to support LGBTQ+ awareness and equality in our workplace.
By incorporating LGBTQ+ awareness into our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee, we strive to provide a positive workplace culture for our employees. Raising awareness to diversity, equity and inclusion provides an environment where employees can feel welcomed, valued and express their true selves. A healthy work environment for all employees is important for not only increasing productivity, but more importantly helping employees feel comfortable coming into work every day.
2020 was the first year that the LGBTQ+ community has worked with the DEI committee. The committee hopes to integrate many LGBTQ+ awareness activities, including participation in events hosted by Capital City Pride of Des Moines.
Medisa Brkic, F&G Key Accounts Specialist, has helped drive awareness of LGBTQ+ equality within F&G. She also volunteers time towards many different F&G committees and shares how she believes F&G has impacted the LGBTQ+ community.

When you think of the LGBTQ+ community, they are really authentic and welcoming. So, it’s good that F&G is a very welcoming company where everyone is encouraged to be themselves. I love working for F&G because even as we’ve grow rapidly the last few years, we’re really focusing on building our culture.
Having the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee as part of our culture means that F&G truly cares about their employees and allows us to feel comfortable coming to work every day. Giving employees the option to be who they are — instead of hiding themselves — and actually supporting them makes a tremendous difference in workplace culture and is one of the reasons that I am so proud to work at F&G.
